Alpine Classic properties are where are exacting standards begin. In many cases the only differentiating factor between Alpine Classic and Alpine Luxe is size. The quality of materials, the interior design and in many cases the available facilities are exceptionally good.

Servicing an Alpine Classic property requires the same caring attention to detail that a booking in any one of our properties demand. Again, because the properties are in many cases a lot smaller than our Luxe portfolio, they don’t demand the same size of teams, and this is the main criteria that determines the difference between service provision in a Classic or Luxe property.

Home of the Iconic Matterhorn

Zermatt Has a Wealth of Excellent Restaurants Both on the Mountain and in the Village, and Its Rich Mountain Culture is Steeped in History

The Mountain

The picturesque Matterhorn, omnipresent; iconic; and hypnotic, attracts every level of skier. With over 14 glaciers and 38 peaks rising above 4,000m in the region, the resort is a favourite ski location for many simply due to its unforgettable scenery, meaning Zermatt accommodation is in high demand.

Europe’s highest resort, Zermatt offers year-round skiing and is reliably one of the most snow-sure resorts in the world. Over 350km of pistes comprise its extensive network, which stretches into the Italian resort of Cervinia, highly recommended as a lunchtime destination. A plethora of mountain restaurants and bars provide welcoming pit stops to take advantage of on your way back to one of our luxury chalets after an incredible day of skiing.

With Zermatt’s heavily glaciated landscape, the best way to experience the challenging off-piste skiing is with a Mountain Guide. Many have skied in Zermatt all their lives and know the off-piste like the back of their hands and can find something to test the most experienced skiers. We can arrange this for you with our network of experienced guides to ensure you maximise your time on the mountain.

For the definitive ski or snowboard experience, we would be delighted to book you a heli-skiing trip. Zermatt offers some incredible terrain only easily accessed by a helicopter including the Monte Rosa, the Aschorn, and the Alphubeljoch. Helicopter sightseeing is also an incredible way to view the mountains surrounding Zermatt and allows a unique perspective of the Matterhorn.

The Village

Zermatt village, resting at 1,620m above sea level, is widely recognised as one of the most beautiful resorts in the world. In perfect view of the staggering and iconic ‘Toblerone mountain’, it provides a stunning location for a special ski holiday, listed in National Geographic’s “must see places”.

With its name – originally ‘Zur Matte’ – meaning ‘at the meadow’, it benefits from not only excellent winter snow, but also lush summer greenery, making it a beautiful location year-round – for winter sports as well as hiking and biking.

The transition into summer in Zermatt opens the door to a wealth of new activities to enjoy. A wonderful family destination that will capture the imagination of children, a cultural hub, a playground for athletes and a perfect destination for summer skiing, Zermatt has something for everyone and should definitely be on your bucket list for the warmer months too.

Uniquely, Zermatt is a car-free zone, with only e-busses, e-taxis or horse drawn carriages on the roads. A haven for super clean, fresh air and reduced noise pollution; it provides a welcome break from city life.

Zermatt is also a gastronome’s dream. The culinary scene is bursting with delicious options, from up-to-the-minute modern Michelin-starred haute cuisine to traditional time-honoured Swiss specialities.

On-the-ground Expertise

From the moment you book your holiday with Bramble Ski, you’ll have access to our excellent pre-arrivals team with their wealth of local knowledge.

From nabbing you the best table in town for your family Christmas dinner, to pre-empting that much-needed sports massage, to arranging a memorable birthday surprise – they can take care of the finer details of your trip ahead of time, so that once you arrive all you have to do is relax.

Our service levels have been designed to match a range of requirements. For sublime fine-dining and unrivalled in-chalet service throughout your stay, our catered properties are the perfect choice. If privacy and flexibility are your priorities, choose from our bed and breakfast, self-catered and accommodation-only options.

Bramble Ski is unique in employing in-house ski instructors who double up as concierges. They have all the best on-mountain and in-resort tips, from advising you on where to seek that untouched powder to where to find the best fondue.

They will also be on hand to assist you with making bookings or reservations throughout your stay.

Zermatt Village Life

A Picturesque Mountain Village Set at the Foot of the Matterhorn, the Multi-award Winning Resort of Zermatt Has Everything You Could Wish for From a Ski Resort

Despite Zermatt’s popularity, it still maintains a unique aura of old-world village charm. Distinctive Swiss chalets and cottages house the small population of roughly 5,700 residents.

As the entire resort is pedestrianised, an array of small boutiques as well as designer brands stores have sprung up along the main shopping street, the Bahnhofstrasse, which runs up the valley from the train station. Gluhwein lends an aromatic smell and a warming sensation for an evening amble under warm layers.

Horse-drawn carriages are available as well as electric taxi and shuttle services. The shuttle journey from Tasch, where all cars are parked, only increases the sense of anticipation as you arrive at this incredible resort.

Apres-ski

On your ski back to your luxury Zermatt ski chalet, there are numerous opportunities to sample the lively local aprés-ski. Stop off in one of the bars that line the piste such as Hennu Stall – an après hut located at the bottom of the Furi-Zermatt valley slope – to experience the infectious atmosphere.

Alternatively, head to the village if you’re looking for a sophisticated vibe where you can sip Champagne at the likes of the Cervo or Berghof hotels.

Restaurants

The choice of restaurants in Zermatt is unrivalled and their venues are just as varied, ranging from timeless mountain cabanes to modern architectural buildings to rival the most fashionable inner-city restaurants.

From the glamorous 2 Michelin-starred After Seven, to local gems like Restaurant Schäferstube for a cosy fireside fondue night and everything in between – you’ll discover somewhere to satisfy every craving.

With the opportunity to ski across to Italy to sample the Italian delicacies in restaurants such as the famous Chalet Etoile, there’s no end to the culinary spoiling. If you choose to stay on the Swiss side, soak up the sunshine and stunning views from Chez Vrony’s terrace.

You will undoubtedly be spoilt for choice in Zermatt, and we can gladly help to plan your restaurant reservations during your time with us, and advise on the most unmissable options.

Bars and Night Clubs

With more than 60 bars and numerous nightclubs, there is something on offer for everyone’s taste to ensure an unforgettable night out. Whether you prefer intimate evenings or decadent, glamorous nights stretching into the small hours.

Winter in Zermatt

A Playground for Skiers and Non Skiers Alike

Zermatt boasts the highest ski area in Switzerland, comprising 360km of pristine pistes with incredible views; what more could you ask for? The altitude means that certain areas are snowsure year-round, and you can ski 365 days a year if you please!

Thanks to its shared border with Italy, it is a buzzing, international hub for snow lovers, and you can make the most of this proximity by taking a day to ski over to Cervinia, where you can drink Italian Prosecco and eat authentic Italian cuisine.

The lift system – comprising 53 lifts – is known to be fantastic, connecting Cervinia with the other three main sectors – Rothorn, Gornergrat, and the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. The terrain is particularly good for intermediate and advanced skiers, with some great off-piste itineraries as well as 61% red and 8% black pistes.

Non-skiing Activities

Besides skiing, there are a host of alternative activities on offer, including an aquatics centre, the Zermatt Museum, and indoor tennis courts, all of which are easily accessible.

Zermatt’s cinema, which also doubles as a concert venue, is lit in the warm light of impressive glowing chandeliers lending a regal feeling to an evening film or concert.

If you do not ski or you are looking for a break from skiing, there are numerous options for alternative activities, both on the mountain and in the village.

The Matterhorn Glacier Paradise offers the highest lift-accessed 360-degree view in Europe. On a clear day, one can view the Swiss, French, and Italian Alps in all their glory.

Some of the winter activities which are available to you without having to strap into your ski or snowboard boots are snowshoeing, sledging, clay pigeon shooting, curling, ice skating, and paragliding.

Wellness

Although many of our Zermatt ski chalets have shared or private spa facilities, there are a great array of day spas to choose from.

Two of our top choice are Mont Cervin Palace Spa and the Grand Hotel Zermatterhoff Spa. Both have indoor pools, saunas, hammams, fitness centres, and a wide selection of treatments available.

Cervo has a unique offering in the form of their Mountain Ashram Spa, featuring a Japanese-style outdoor onsen, Bhutanese hot stone baths, a peaceful ‘ritual room’ for meditation, and a range of holistic treatments available.

If you would prefer to exercise or unwind in the comfort of your luxury chalet, speak to your concierge to arrange personal training sessions, private yoga instruction, massages and more.
