In the Heart of Méribel

HIKING AND TRAIL RUNNING

Méribel and the beautiful surrounding area can be explored via 200km of paths, with 4 lifts remaining open throughout the summer. Local guides and rangers can share their knowledge on everything from flora, fauna and geology to regional history and foods. Walks vary in difficulty from casual strolls to challenging treks and everything in between. The vast Vanoise National Park is on your doorstep which features 100 3000m+ peaks, and acts as a sanctuary for chamois and ibex. Plan de Tuéda Nature Reserve is a haven for a myriad of wildlife and rare plant species, and you can fish in the lake without a licence.

Méribel is renowned for its 150km of fantastic marked trail running routes, and with nine different itineraries to explore, you’ll certainly feel accomplished. Enthusiasts will be thrilled with the variety of the terrain, which ranges from relatively flat, scenic options to steeper, more wild routes. Reaching almost 2,800m, the trails range from 2km to over 50km in length, offering something for all abilities.

Several trail running competitions occur throughout the summer, including the Meribel Trail, which crosses the Tueda nature reserve and offers 7 different routes. These range from the Mérib’kids 500m race all the way up to an intense 50km, passing several iconic viewpoints.

WELLNESS

The Olympic Park boasts excellent facilities and classes, including aquagym sessions in the 25m indoor pool, and cardio training in the excellent fitness area. The spa features a sauna, jacuzzi, hammam and therapists offering numerous face and body treatments. There are also a number of  tranquil independent and hotel spas throughout the resort, if you are looking for some luxurious escapism alone, with your partner or with friends.

Zen altitude is a wonderful 2 week resort-wide event centred around wellness. From massages and outdoor sunset yoga classes, to workshops focused on ancient eastern practices and foraging – Méribel becomes a hub for those seeking serenity and reconnection with nature.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

Méribel’s impressive bike park features downhill trails, enduro circuits and cross-country circuits, ranging from green & blue tracks for beginners to challenging black ones, designed for experts. Three new scenic beginner trails are especially reserved for e-bikes, due to their increasing popularity. You’ll also find a pumptrack and a ‘fun-zone’ to try.

If you’re new to mountain biking or wish to improve your skills, there are several schools offering mountain biking courses ranging between 1-4 days in length. Course numbers are purposefully kept low to ensure enough 1-1 time and to guarantee visible improvement.

FISHING

Tuéda lake welcomes both experienced anglers and curious holidaymakers to try their hand at fishing. Surrounded by beautiful pine forests and distant peaks, the lake is home to gudgeon, carp, trout and more, some weighing up to 4kg. More experienced fishermen can fly fish here, and must release their catches back into the lake. For beginners, traditional fishing with a float is a slightly easier technique, and you’ll be allowed to take home up to six fish if you desire. Equipment can be brought with you or hired.

GOLF

Méribel’s impressive 18-hole course is truly beautiful, allowing you to combine sport with scenery. Encompassing wooded slopes and overlooked by the impressive Dent de Burgin mountain, it took almost forty years to design and build – with the input of several renowned golf course architects; Géry Watine, Thierry Sprecher and Hugues Lambert. The expansive 1,100m² training area comprises a putting green, a chipping green, practice area and bunker, whilst the stunning course itself is 5,538m, with a par of 71.

EVENTS

Notable nation-wide celebrations include the Fête de la Musique and Bastille day, for which Méribel will put on their own events and displays. Unique to the resort, however, are the ‘themed fortnights’ – spanning from the start of July to the end of August. For two weeks each a different theme takes centre stage throughout the resort. In 2022 these will include ‘E-bike experience’, ‘Méribel in the sky’, ‘Art & Tradition’ and ‘Zen altitude’. During each period there will be free and ticketed themed activities, workshops and demonstrations.

KIDS CLUBS

Méribel is a great resort for families with a wealth of experiences you can enjoy together. However, if you would like to sign the children up for activities of their own where they can make new friends, challenge themselves and have fun – there are a great range of kids clubs on offer. With varied programs designed for ages from 18 months to 16 years, younger children can enjoy activities such as butterfly hunts, pony rides, arts and crafts and nature walks, whilst older kids will take part in water sports, ice hockey, archery, via ferrata – and can even try scuba diving safely in the pool.
