Lech Summer Activities: Your Guide to the Best Things to Do in the Alps

Lech in summer reveals a whole new side to this iconic alpine resort. Best known for its world-class skiing in the Arlberg region, Lech transforms into a vibrant summer destination, where pristine mountain lakes, lush woodlands, and breathtaking alpine vistas set the stage for unforgettable adventures. Far from quiet in the warmer months, Lech offers a wealth of outdoor activities for all ages, from scenic walking trails to thrilling downhill biking.

Read on to discover our favourite summer activities in Lech and start planning your perfect alpine escape.

Hiking in Lech – routes for all abilities

The natural choice for a summer activity in the mountains is hiking – take to the trails you once skied in winter, now gentle walking paths or steeper climbs, blossoming with wild flowers. Lech offers over 350km of hiking trails across the resort. Varying from gentle walking trails, suitable for families, to much harder climbs. Follow the Lechweg trail, a gentle path taking you through the twists and turns from the source of the river, through beautiful meadows and breathtaking alpine scenery to an incredible waterfall at the end.

Our Lech resort manager, Alen, who has called Lech home for many years, shares his favourite local hiking route. ‘My favourite trail is the Lech to the Göppinger Hütte via Spullersee, which travels through the Zug valley along the river. It’s a bit of a hidden gem – less crowded than some of the more well-known routes, and the scenery is just stunning the whole way through, especially the turquoise lake and dramatic rock formations. Another favourite summer activity would be a morning wild swim in Formarinsee – not for the faint-hearted, but magical on a clear day!’

The hiking trails in Lech are marked and colour-coded by ability, allowing you to choose which trail you undertake depending on your mood. Remember to pick up a map at the tourist office to explore the best walking routes in Lech this summer.

Explore the resort by bike – mountain biking in Lech

Another natural choice for exploring the mountains in summer is by bike. Lech has 27 different routes to explore, from challenging mountain routes to leisurely routes along the river. Those used to the adrenaline rush of skiing can experience the same thrill in summer with downhill mountain biking. Join one of the guided bike tours, or join a tour on an e-bike, a more relaxing option to help you out on steep inclines, the perfect way to explore the resort on bike.
