Planning the ultimate ski trip with friends but not sure where to go? That’s where we can help. Read on for our top guide on the best ski resorts for beginners, and where to ski for the first time.
Our first pick is Lech, in Austria. This fantastic resort, cradled in the heart of the Tyrol, Arlberg region, is perfect for beginners. A fantastic resort for families, with dedicated beginner areas and gentle slopes. Conveniently, many of the beginner runs are located in the village, perfect for easy access for families and beginners alike. There’s also plenty of runs to easily explore for novices, including Flühen and Schlosskopf with easy access from the village.
Right in the same alpine village, the Chalech collection provides a sublime blend of style and convenience. Chalech M is a six-bedroom chalet with private spa facilities, stunning views, and just a three-minute walk to the Schlosskopf lift (and about ten minutes to the village centre). Chalech S, in the same residence, sleeps twelve across six rooms and offers shared access to a pool, spa, gym, and sits practically on the piste. For a more compact option, Chalech L sleeps eight, spans two floors, and sits a short walk from the lifts and about ten minutes from the centre. All these chalets share high-end wellness facilities (indoor pool, gym, spa) and ski rooms, marrying privacy with communal luxury.
Our second choice of resort is the wonderful Courchevel in France. Part of the wider Trois Vallées, it’s not just for advanced skiers, the Jardin Alpin area of Courchevel 1850 is perfect for beginners. Take the Jardin Alpin lift and you’ll be wowed by surrounding alpine views; then follow any of the green piste runs down this cruisy route through the trees, past the fairytale-like Airelles hotel, and back to the heart of Courchevel 1850. If you want to explore more of Courchevel but stick to easy runs, head over to Courchevel 1650. Ride the Ariondaz gondola for views, then take the Praline green run down. Stop for lunch at Bel Air just at the top of Ariondaz for stunning mountain vistas and charming French cuisine, then cruise gently back into Courchevel 1650. The 1650 sector is ideal for sunny skiing and offers wide, uncomplicated green and blue pistes.
Within Courchevel’s portfolio, Chalet Acélia is a true standout. Nestled in Courchevel 1550 (which is well linked to the 1850 ski area), it sleeps 8+2 in five bedrooms, includes a gym and indoor hot tub, and is only minutes from lifts and the village centre. For grander ambitions, Lord of Snow is a ski-in/ski-out masterpiece in 1850, with seven bedrooms, a pool, a hot tub, and direct access to the Bellecôte piste. And tucked into 1850, Chalet L’Arctique offers stylish accommodations with wellness perks, ideally positioned for gentle cruising access.
Staying in the Trois Vallées, another brilliant choice for beginners is Méribel. It’s well connected and allows you to reach beginner zones without always worrying about making it back. In particular, the Altiport / Rhodos gondola gives access to sweeping long blue slopes perfect for lapping. Mottaret, reachable via the Pas du Lac gondola, is also beginner-friendly with long greens, a Yeti Park full of playful slope features, and a dual slalom course to test turning skills.
In Méribel, Chalet La Loze is one of the flagship chalets in our collection, offering generous space, mountain views, and refined interiors. Chalet Genepi is another excellent choice, sleeping 14 with an outdoor hot tub and ample comfort. For a modern yet tranquil option, Chalet L’Orchidée is a newly built standalone property just a five-minute walk from the Olympic gondola, with a games room, outdoor hot tub, and cozy design that invites relaxation after your first turns.
Alternatively, head to Val d’Isère, which offers surprisingly good options for beginners in its lower slopes, especially around Solaise. Chalet Abade is a newly renovated ski-in/ski-out gem, accommodating up to 12 with five bedrooms, a hammam, outdoor hot tub, and piste proximity right next to Solaise and Olympique lifts. For a more boutique feel, Chalet Lashca sits in the peaceful Le Fornet area, complete with indoor pool, games room, and just a short walk to the gondola. Another standout is Chalet Kitsune, a ski-in/ski-out property with five bedrooms, indoor pool, sauna, and modern alpine style near Val d’Isère’s lifts.
