    Val D'isère Village Life

Authentic, Aesthetic, and Charming, Val D’isère is the Ideal French Ski Resort.

Beautiful stone and wood chalets make up the villages of La Daille and Le Fornet which are linked to the main town where the streets are prettily decorated with tasteful boutique stores, appealing restaurants, and buzzing bars. The free shuttle bus system is second to none making getting around and exploring hassle-free.

Val d’Isère maintains a strong sense of history through the 17th-century church that still stands in the village. This iconic stone relic, which is beautifully illuminated by night, watches over the village and is a picturesque reminder of its modest roots as a farming village.

The village is well known for its wide range of restaurants, bars and designer shops that cater to a multitude of tastes.

From a relaxed beer to a glass of the finest champagne, there are après options for every type of skier in Val d’Isère. Reputedly offering the best après in the Alps is the infamous La Folie Douce located at the top of the La Daille gondola. The music starts early and world-famous DJs work the crowds of revellers throughout the afternoon into the evening. Cocorico, located on beginner slope in the village, is another popular choice. Live musicians playing popular cover songs on the outside terrace draw an appreciative afternoon audience. There are many other sunny decks on which to enjoy a post-ski drink as you make your way down the mountain and once skis are off, the village beckons with great spots.

    Restaurants in Val D’isère

When it comes to dining out, Val d’Isère covers all tastes and modes. It offers not only diversity but is known for producing a generally high standard of cuisine. During the days, the mountain huts are teeming with hungry skiers serving traditional favourites such as fondue, tartiflette, and crozets. For a more sophisticated option, a table at La Peau de Vache provides delicious choices including the best burgers on the mountain. La Fruitiere is the gorgeously rustic fine-dining restaurant next to La Foulie Douce serving traditional Savoyard cuisine and you cannot go wrong with L’Ouillette in Solaise which serves a fantastic barbeque on their sunny terrace and excellent pastry desserts. Dining in the village is just as memorable, at the top of the list is the two Michelin star L’Aterlier d’Edmond, located in Le Fornet. and we’d be delighted to make recommendations and book you a table. Other popular eateries include Baraque and the Fondue Factory, which has a mini museum inside the restaurant.

For those with an appetite to party, Val d’Isère will more than satisfy. Dick’s Tea Bar is a village institution. It opens after après ends and keeps going until 5am, with DJs, live sax and electric violin keeping party goers on their toes through the night. The Doudoune club is hugely popular with its Ibiza-feel and fun-stirring theme nights, and they even offer a convenient pick up service. The list is long and varied.

    Winter Activities

A Skiing Mecca, Yes, But There’s Also So Much Else to Do in Val D’isère.

One of the many attractions of Val d’Isère is that it is not just a ski destination in the winter months. For non-skiers and those looking for a break from the slopes, there is an exciting and varied list of alternative activities. The many boutiques along the high street are a must for some retail therapy. A number of very high-end spa facilities provide spaces for rejuvenating mind and body. A great option for those with children is the Centre Aquasportif which has a great pool with fountains and a water current. There is also a climbing wall to burn off a bit of energy.

A firm family Val d’Isère favourite is the sledging at the nursery slope next to the Savonette lift where you can ride interlocking sledges collectively called the Snake Gliss, an exercise that guarantees some belly laughs. Another popular family activity is the dog sledding. Those looking for other ways to challenge themselves could try ice driving in the BMW-sponsored circuit in La Daille, and for those with a real sense of adventure, there’s ice diving under the lake in Tignes where you can dive up to 80m below the surface. Para-penting, snow shoeing, and indulging in great food are other great options for during your stay.

    Summer in Val D'isère

Val d’Isère may be a world-famous ski resort, but the summer months have plenty to offer visitors too. It is even possible to ski here if you did not get your fix in the winter season – giving you the perfect opportunity to book another stay in our luxury chalets, Val d’Isère.

The resort is much quieter during the summer than during the winter, but during the warmer months, the Alps is a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Some of the activities you can enjoy are hiking, mountain biking, road biking, via ferrata, yoga and paragliding. The scenery is breathtaking, with mountain meadows covered in wild flowers, crystal clear lakes and forests alive with birds and insects.

    Events in Val D'isère

    Winter Events

Val d’Isère embraces the festive spirit, and over the Christmas week the village centre is transformed into a Christmas wonderland. There are giant snow and ice sculptures, a magnificent nativity crib, along with shows and concerts for the whole family. The Christmas celebrations culminate with a visit from Father Christmas on December 24th who arrives on a horse-drawn sledge. Val d’Isère has long had a close affiliation with ski racing. Each year, it is a stop on either the men’s or women’s FIS World Cup tour and the resort welcomes the world’s best ski racers to test themselves on the infamous Bellevarde. The atmosphere in the resort is electric over the race weekend.
