When the snow melts, Verbier transforms into a haven for families, peace-and-quiet seekers and adrenaline junkies alike. The dramatic landscape offers so much to explore, as well as becoming a gathering place for the crème de la crème of multiple disciplines, from classical musicians to equestrian champions.
With 23 enduro trails, 500km of cross-country tracks and numerous paths to ride, as well as the bikepark containing 19km of downhill trails of varying degrees of difficulty - it is no wonder that Verbier attracts bikers of all ability levels throughout summer. In August, it plays host to Europe’s largest E-bike festival, lasting several days and jam-packed with tours, races and events sponsored by various famous bike and sports brands.
Trail running and hiking is incredibly popular too, and Verbier has a great selection of marked paths to suit all abilities and ages. From family-friendly routes with panoramic views, to demanding hikes to conquer staggering peaks, you will find your ideal hike here - the perfect way to exercise, take in the fresh air and enjoy the alpine scenery.
In summer, the rocky cliff faces become a haven for climbers, too. There are Via Ferrata routes consisting of a sequence of rungs, ladders, and bridges which can help even lesser-experienced climbers scale the mountain, if they are sure footed and have a head for heights! You’ll need to hire a helmet and harness in the town before you embark, but it is a safe yet adrenaline inducing experience sure to give you a great sense of accomplishment when you reach the top.
Other ways to experience the beautiful scenery in Verbier include paragliding and the Mont 4 zipline, where you’ll glide through the air for a bird’s eye view across the peaks. If you’d rather stay land-bound, you can hire cross-country scooters and ride through the landscape with the whole family in tow.
The E-bike festival isn’t Verbier’s only big summer event. Also in August is the Verbier International Show Jumping Competition, one of the most prestigious gatherings in the equine calendar, with over 300 horses and talented competitors from 20 countries - amongst them some of the very best European riders. Entrance is free, and even if you aren’t an equestrian fanatic, it still makes for an enjoyable day out.
Later in the month is the Inspire Yoga Festival. With a wide range of ticketed events from vinyasa flow dancing to vegan cookery lessons, the varied program is sure to leave you feeling calm, balanced, and rejuvenated - and where better to partake in this wellness journey than in the tranquil Verbier summer landscape.
One of the most notable cultural events of the summer is the Verbier Festival, gathering some of the most renowned names in classical music, and fans from across the globe. Performances range in price and take place at several venues throughout the town, from a tenor opera singer in the ethereal white church, to a chamber orchestra in the concert hall, which is constructed each year anew.
Easily reachable from Verbier, the Montreaux Jazz Festival is a one of a kind annual event on the shore of glistening Lake Geneva. Previously graced by the likes of Lionel Richie, John Legend, Mary J Blige and Jamie XX just to name a few, it is a stunning backdrop for a very special celebration of Jazz.
For children, there are numerous mountain camps on offer for all ages. Our team would be delighted to reccommend summer camps, who provide sports, music, and language workshops to keep youngsters engaged, educated and entertained.
